The EMG 89XR pickup is based on the principle of the 89X, but reverses the orientation of the coils: the single-coil part is on the neck side, for that clear, bright Strat sound. In humbucker mode, it delivers well-dosed power, and by activating the single-coil mode via the push-pull, you get a clear, open and brilliant sound, just like that of a classic single coil.

The humbucker mode, used more in the bridge position, produces a rich, powerful sound that holds saturation well, perfect for rock or blues rhythms and denser leads.
The single coil, placed on the neck side thanks to the inverted coils, produces a clear, crystalline sound, very similar to that of the Strat, ideal for funk, jazz or calmer, more nuanced passages.
Thanks to the push-pull, you can switch instantly from a powerful humbucker to a simple clear coil. It's fast, it's precise and it means you don't have to juggle microphones or pedals to find the right sound. The X Series preamp adds dynamics and maintains a natural response, without making the sound too compressed.
