This set of FAT 55 Zebra microphones from EMG draws on the best of the past. Two humbuckers inspired by classic PAFs, with an active core to keep them quiet, even at high volume. Power is supplied via a discrete preamp housed outside the coils. The result: zero hum and an extended dynamic range.
Low frequencies come out full-bodied, without drooling. Highs remain clean, even when crunched. You can feel the warmth of the Alnico, but without excessive midrange. Notes breathe, sustain remains present. It reacts quickly to nuances in playing, without cheating on the overall sound.
You install it without getting out the soldering iron. The kit comes complete: cabling, screws, stereo jack, drum bus, it's all there. The format fits a classic Tune-O-Matic (49 mm) and Strat cavities (10 mm).
The Zebra colour adds cachet without overdoing the retro look. Clear or saturated, this set stays on course. You plug in, you play. And smile.
