Presentation
Olympic White on heat-treated poplar — the Jet JS-400 OW boasts an instantly recognisable aesthetic, but it is the heat-treated wood that dictates the true nature of the sound. Roasted poplar loses its moisture in the oven; what remains vibrates more freely, with a drier attack and stripped-back mid-range that allows the definition of the notes to shine through rather than drowning them in a generic woody mass.
The torrefied Canadian maple neck, with a Modern C profile, tapers down to a torrefied maple fingerboard with a radius of 241.3 mm — flat enough to play the high-fret strings without any false notes caused by pressure. The nut, made of bone or polymer fibre depending on the model year and cut to 41.9 mm, transmits vibrations to the neck without unwanted damping. The double-action truss rod corrects both under- and over-curvature depending on string tension and humidity.
The vibrato tremolo bridge introduces a variable that the fixed ‘T’ version lacks: the ability to adjust pitch whilst playing, with the associated risk of detuning that the chrome hardware and chrome tuning machines limit through their mechanical stability. The ceramic HSS configuration covers a wide range — single-coil pickups in the middle positions for brightness, a humbucker at the bridge for richness — all controlled via a 5-position selector switch with 1 volume and 1 tone control. The vintage white pickguard completes the look.
