Presentation
The electric hum of the JS-700 CPR HS instantly cuts through the studio’s hushed atmosphere, its striking copper-coloured finish capturing the ambient electricity to project a cutting sound to the forefront of the mix. From the very first attack, the HS pickup configuration (the J-87 bridge pickup and the J-Rail neck pickup) converts the energy of the Alnico V magnets into an organic yet aggressive attack, propelling rich harmonics that effortlessly pierce the spectrum of saturated frequencies. The double-locking Wilkinson vibrato stabilises the strings’ anchorage, absorbing even the most extreme dive-bombs without causing the signal to deviate by a single hertz, whilst the single volume knob simplifies interaction for instant responsiveness to the amplifier.
Under the palm, friction fades away to give way to a unique warmth. The roasted Canadian maple neck offers the rigidity of heat-treated wood, eliminating any mechanical variation under the spotlight, whilst its nut width of 41.9 mm (1.65″) allows for a natural hand position during rapid passages. Fingers glide over the 22 frets anchored in the roasted poplar fingerboard (or ‘roasted’ fingerboard), whose 241.3 mm (9.5″) subtly curves the surface to make complex chords flow smoothly without ever stifling the resonance. A double-action truss rod compensates for mechanical tension down to the millimetre, maintaining a low and precise action throughout the performance.
The vibrating core comes to life through the combination of a basswood body, with its neutral and balanced resonance, and a scale length of 647.7 mm (25.5″), which snaps under the pick with the ideal tension for sustain. The chrome hardware gives off a cool, metallic feel, anchored to the headstock by a locking nut that secures the tuning as soon as the string is inserted. This sealed system is complemented by chrome locking tuners, which prevent any note slippage, offering the listener impeccable harmonic clarity and extended sustain thanks to the excellent transmission of vibrations.
