Presentation
Martinez built the MC-88S CE RN around a simple idea: to allow the solid wood to resonate without ever restricting the guitarist’s playing. From the very first chords, the 4/4 classical body with a cutaway produces a rounded tone, carried by a solid European spruce top that gives the mid-range a lively, woody texture. Its high-gloss natural finish allows the wood’s grain to show through in the light. The 52 mm bone nut provides the fingers with the space needed to play each chord with clarity.
The mahogany neck, joined using the traditional Spanish joint, extends into a rosewood fingerboard where three mother-of-pearl markers indicate the 5th, 7th and 9th frets. Around the soundhole, a wooden inlay traces the outline of the body with a subtle pattern. The 650 mm scale length and twenty frets provide a generous playing area; the double-action truss rod keeps the neck’s curvature under control over time. On the Indian rosewood back and sides, a maple and ebony binding highlights the outline of the body.
Beneath the top, the Spanish fan bracing provides structural support to the body and enhances acoustic projection, whilst the Fishman ISY-301 system takes over on stage, featuring a built-in tuner and two-band equaliser powered by a 9V battery. The gold-plated Martinez Gold 88 tuning machines maintain a consistent tuning. The factory-fitted Martinez strings complete the package, and the included Martinez gig bag protects the instrument between rehearsals.

Martinez has a unique history in the world of classical guitar. The brand has its roots in Germany, dating back to 1978, before expanding its production operations to China with a facility in Guangzhou. In 2005, Kenny Hill joined the company as a technical adviser. Martinez combines the tradition of European guitar-making with modern Chinese production methods. In particular, the brand uses the Spanish joint on several models and has developed its own manufacturing processes. Its catalogue includes classical, flamenco and electro-classical guitars, as well as other acoustic instruments. Martinez has a major manufacturing facility in Guangzhou and distributes its instruments to numerous international markets.
