Presentation
There are few instruments that can survive the decades without losing their identity. The Moog Model D Bob Moog Tribute Edition is one of those rare machines. Introduced in the early 70s, the Minimoog Model D marked a turning point in the history of electronic music by making synthesis accessible, direct and immediately playable, without complex patches.
This edition pays tribute to that heritage, while retaining the essential features that made it so distinctive. The architecture is entirely analogue, with three oscillators capable of generating deep basses, expressive leads or thick textures. The famous Moog ladder low-pass filter remains at the heart of the sound, with its dynamic response and ability to shape timbre in a highly musical way.
The audio signal path faithfully respects the original design of the 70s, with through-components and unchanged analogue circuitry. This approach allows us to rediscover the sonic behaviour characteristic of the Minimoog, in particular the natural saturation of the mixer, which adds character when the levels are pushed up.
The Model D Bob Moog Tribute Edition does, however, introduce a number of enhancements that expand the possibilities without changing the character of the instrument. A dedicated analogue LFO lets you add independent modulations with triangular and square waveforms. MIDI integration makes it easy to use in a modern environment, whether in the studio or in a hybrid configuration with other instruments.
The Fatar keyboard provides a more precise response, with velocity and aftertouch accessible via the CV outputs on the top panel. This evolution allows you to enrich your playing and interact more finely with the parameters of the synthesiser or other modular equipment.
By modifying the mixer feedback, you can also explore more aggressive areas of the sound. By increasing the level, the Model D can enter into a more pronounced saturation, offering more raw and expressive textures.
For the first time, this version incorporates a spring-loaded pitch wheel with a central dead zone, a detail that enhances control and allows for more natural performances.
The aluminium chassis, combined with the Appalachian cherry wood case, recalls the original aesthetic while ensuring a solid construction. Made in Asheville, North Carolina, this model retains Moog's signature craftsmanship.
Used by artists such as Giorgio Moroder, the Minimoog has helped define entire genres. This edition continues that tradition by offering an instrument that remains simple to grasp, yet capable of producing instantly recognisable sounds.
