The Roland JUPITER-08 polyphonic synthesiser features an 8-voice, 2-part architecture, staying true to the spirit of the historic Jupiter-8. The layer, split and dual-part functions expand the possibilities for musical composition.

To build evolving musical phrases, its 64-step polyphonic sequencer handles 2 parts and up to 8 notes per step. Motion recording adds a dynamic dimension to programmed patterns. The arpeggiator complements this system to create melodic lines and rhythms in motion.

Roland has also included a built-in effects section featuring 17 types of processing, including a chorus, a dedicated delay, and Hall and Shimmer reverbs. These tools alter the depth, width and texture of the sounds. The Jupiter-08 synthesiser thus makes it easy to create pads, spatial textures and more distinctive timbres.

The physical controls allow for direct manipulation of sound parameters, without having to control everything via a computer screen. The Hold function sustains notes, freeing up your hands to continue shaping the sound. This design will appeal to musicians who prefer hands-on control, particularly for evolving chords or textures during a performance. The virtual analogue synthesiser thus retains an expressive approach, rooted in instrumental playing.

Its USB-C audio and MIDI interface enables connectivity with a computer, tablet or smartphone, whilst traditional MIDI sockets allow interaction with keyboards and external modules. Powered by 1.5 V batteries or via USB-C, this portable synthesiser with built-in speakers is suitable for a wide range of creative set-ups, without necessarily requiring a mains power supply.
