Preamps
SPL's GoldMike MK2 is a 2-channel hybrid tube and transistor mic/instrument preamp. It combines transistor and tube preamplifier stages to get all the technological and sonic benefits: the efficiency and low noise of a discrete transistor stage, enriched by the warm, musical colouration of a tube stage. The transistor stage is made up of single Class A transistors. The circuits are totally discrete and each transistor is fully optimised for its specific task. What struck Sonovente's technicians when they first listened to this preamp was the cleanliness of the sound and the sense of detail.

Presentation
The GoldMike MkII builds on the experience of its predecessor, the acclaimed GoldMike, and features an improved and more flexible mic and instrument preamplifier.
The degree of tube preamplification is no longer the fixed +6dB of its predecessor. The GoldMike Mk2 is equipped with three different tube preamps: +6dB remains the standard, complemented by +12dB and +18dB. This allows for creative variety with tube saturation and limiting effects.
As the GoldMikeMk2 is a two-channel preamplifier, its channel separation is of fundamental importance to the stereo image. Consequently, the PCB layout is symmetrically mirrored around the power supply, from channel 1 to channel 2. The result is a signal flow identical to that of a naturally balanced stereo image.

Other features
-
SPL GoldMike MK2 2-channel hybrid tube and transistor mic/instrument preamp.
-
Transistor stage (extremely fast rise rate of over 200 V/µs).

Flair circuit: compared to an equaliser, this circuit reinforces the presence of the signal in a natural and discreet way, making it the ideal tool for optimising the harmonic content of vocals and acoustic instruments.
-
The peak limiter uses special diodes whose characteristic produces an analogue saturation effect that attenuates signal peaks in an elegant and discreet way.
