The Triton Audio FetHead Germanium combines amplification and sonic character by adding up to +29 dB of gain enriched by a germanium transistor. It adds presence, density and depth to dynamic, ribbon or tube microphones, while remaining simple and straightforward to use in the audio chain.

Presentation
In a modern audio system, many preamps favour transparency. This choice is appropriate in certain contexts, but it can also leave the signal a little too neutral, particularly with microphones that are already not very colourful. The FetHead Germanium takes a different approach, adding not only gain but also an identifiable sonic signature.
Its operation is based on a hybrid circuit that combines an FET base with a selected germanium transistor. This type of component, widely used in early electronic audio equipment, is renowned for its ability to add a particular texture to the signal. Here, the result is a denser sound, with a greater sense of presence and a slightly more pronounced grain, without tipping over into excessive saturation.
The benefits of this type of booster quickly become apparent with dynamic or ribbon microphones. The signal gains in level, but above all in consistency. A voice becomes more embodied, an instrument pick-up gains in impact, and certain sources can regain a form of relief that very neutral preamps tend to smooth out.
The FetHead Germanium is integrated directly between the microphone and the preamp, without the need for any special adjustment. It uses phantom power to operate, but like the other models in the range designed for passive microphones, it does not transmit phantom power to the microphone. This means it can be used without risk with sensitive ribbon microphones.
Its compact size and robust design mean it can be used both in the studio and on the move. It's a discreet tool in the audio chain, but its influence is immediately felt when you want to give a take a little more character.
