In a modern audio system, getting a clean signal is one thing, giving it substance is quite another. The FetHead Transformer does just that, providing not only gain but also a sonic signature based on the use of a transformer.

This model is based on a combination of a Class A FET circuit and a custom-wound nickel-core transformer. The latter plays an essential role in the final sound. Unlike purely transparent amplification, the transformer introduces a slight non-linearity that enriches the signal with harmonics. The result is a denser sound, with more depth and a greater sense of proximity.

This approach is particularly interesting for vocal recordings. Its use remains identical to that of the other models in the range. The FetHead Transformer is connected directly between the microphone and the preamp, without any special settings or configuration. It uses phantom power to operate, but does not transmit it to the microphone, making it compatible with sensitive ribbon microphones.
