Audient - Horizon 8P

The Audient Horizon 8P features 8 console-style mic preamps delivering up to 75 dB of gain, as well as 2 JFET instrument inputs on the front panel. This audio interface also allows you to choose from three impedance signatures via ORBIT Control, so you can tailor each input to the desired response when using different types of microphones.

32-bit conversion at up to 192 kHz and a dynamic range of 133 dB ensure high-precision recording, with a fine reproduction of subtle nuances. At 192 kHz and with a 64-sample buffer, round-trip latency drops to 0.99 ms, a figure suitable for recording and monitoring with software processing.

For hybrid mixing, the Horizon 8P features 8 line inputs and outputs via DB25 connectors, facilitating the connection of external analogue processors. The dual ADAT connection adds 16 channels of digital expansion, thereby extending the system without requiring additional rack units. This architecture is therefore well-suited to environments where multiple signal formats need to coexist.

Audient has also considered monitoring, incorporating a dual stereo output for comparing two mixes, two independent headphone outputs and dedicated hardware controls. Mono, polarity reversal, Dim, Talkback and reference levels at +18 dBu or +24 dBu form the basis of a monitoring station where essential functions remain directly accessible. The hardware layout also facilitates rapid management of different sources and monitoring paths.

The Horizon Control software completes the package with a routing matrix, customisable monitoring, comfort reverb and four independent headphone mixes. Each musician thus benefits from a distinct monitoring setup, with signal paths tailored to the production’s requirements. The digital design of the settings also makes it easy to recall them, whilst the 1U metal chassis ensures discreet integration into the rack.

The Audient Horizon 8P also features a scalable architecture allowing up to four interfaces to be daisy-chained using a single driver. The system can thus support up to 200 inputs and 200 outputs, providing expansion capacity suited to set-ups that require an increasing number of sources. The BNC Word Clock connections also enhance synchronisation consistency between different digital devices.
