Austrian Audio - OC616

The Austrian Audio OC616 microphone is designed for recording situations where precision, natural sound and flexibility really matter. Its CKR12 capsule reproduces sound sources with fine definition, a lovely sense of openness and depth that is equally suited to vocals and acoustic instruments.

The five selectable polar patterns allow the pickup to be adapted to different recording set-ups, particularly for individual sources, ambient sounds or stereo set-ups. The three high-pass filters and two attenuators also provide precise control over level variations and acoustic constraints encountered in the studio or on stage.

Its ability to handle up to 157 dB SPL and its dynamic range of 134 dB extend its versatility to guitar and bass amps, brass instruments and drum kits. The fast transient response also ensures accurate reproduction of attack, cymbals and variations in intensity, with sufficient headroom for heavily driven sources.

For advanced stereo recordings, particularly in Mid/Side, the various polar patterns facilitate the creation of a coherent and spacious soundstage. This design is also well-suited to ambient recordings, where the natural response preserves the acoustic depth of a room and the details of its surroundings. The result can be used to enrich a musical production with a genuine sense of space.

Each unit is hand-built in Vienna, featuring a CKR12 capsule incorporating a patented ceramic isolator and a peripheral connection. This design combines a concept inspired by the CK12 with modern technology, with a focus on precision and consistency. Open Acoustic Technology reduces internal reflections and acoustic interference before they interact with the capsule, thereby preserving the fidelity of the recorded signal.
