United Studio Technologies - UT Vintage87

The United Studio Technologies UT Vintage87 was designed with a clear idea in mind: to make accessible the sonic essence of one of the most iconic studio microphones in history, without compromising on build quality or audio performance.

The result of research carried out for the UT Twin87, this model deliberately focuses on a fixed cardioid pick-up pattern to offer a more direct, pure and coherent response in all recording situations.

At the heart of the UT Vintage87 is a United-developed UT-K87 dual-diaphragm, dual-backplate capsule, precision-machined from solid brass.

Its 6-micron Japanese PET film diaphragm, sputtered with 24-carat gold and assembled in a controlled environment, guarantees balanced, detailed and stable reproduction of vocals as well as acoustic or amplified instruments.

The output stage is based on a custom-wound, large-core United custom transformer made in the USA. Its particularly large metallic mass ensures excellent low-frequency stability, wide dynamic range and lossless signal transmission, even over long cable runs.

The result is an open, three-dimensional sound, with a sensation of depth that is much appreciated in voice recording, dubbing or ambient recording.

The internal circuit is deliberately uncluttered, giving a more sensitive cardioid response and an improved signal-to-noise ratio. A switchable RF filter effectively limits electromagnetic interference, a feature rarely found on this type of vintage-inspired microphone.
