D'Angelico - Premier Atlantic Oxblood

Oxblood. The very name of the Premier Atlantic’s colour sets the tone: deep, almost burgundy, and gleaming like a car body that’s just been driven out of the garage. The Single Cutaway silhouette draws on the classic design elements of the genre, featuring a black 5-ply F-hole-style pickguard that stands out against this dark finish.

D’Angelico has applied its ‘belly cut’ technique here: the basswood body tapers where the forearm rests, reducing weight without compromising sustain. It’s a detail that makes all the difference after a two-hour set spent standing, when the strap starts to weigh on your shoulder.

The Scarf-joined maple neck, with a set-through construction and C-profile, flows into an Ovangkol fingerboard fitted with 22 Medium Vintage nickel-silver frets. The 355.60 mm radius lends itself to both barre chords and generous bends, whilst the solid White Pearloid Block inlays make it easy to find your way around the neck, even in the dim light of a stage.

On the electronics front, the pair of Seymour Duncan Designed pickups (HB-102 at the neck, HB-101 at the bridge) provide a classic humbucker foundation, striking a balance between warmth and bite. Two volume controls, two push-pull tone controls and a 3-position selector switch: the tonal palette extends far beyond a simple on/off switch, for those who like to explore the nuances of sound.

The chrome-plated Tune-O-Matic bridge, combined with the Stopbar tailpiece, ensures direct transmission of vibrations to the body. The Grover 109 Super Rotomatic tuners and the PPS nut provide a stable tuning foundation, supported by the original D’Angelico Electrozinc 10-46 strings. A gig bag is included with the instrument for transport between rehearsals and gigs.
