Folk Electro Acoustic Guitar

D'Angelico Premier Bowery CS Matte Black The D'Angelico Premier Bowery CS, with its Matte Black top, is an electro-acoustic guitar whose Dreadnought silhouette stands out on the acoustic scene like a New York City skyscraper. A laminated mahogany top, Scarf neck and roasted merbau fingerboard create a warm tonal character beneath the fingers. An MG-30 preamp, built-in tuner and PPS nut and saddle complete the package.

New York is evident in every curve of this Bowery CS. The Premier series features a single-cutaway Dreadnought body, and the 647.7 mm (25.5") scale length gives open-string playing just the right balance between riffs and ballads.

Beneath the Matt Black finish of the top, the satin finish hints at the grain of the laminated mahogany that also covers the back and sides. The three-strip binding frames a body with scalloped X-bracing, surrounding an ABS rosette with three cream/black/cream rings, and there is no pickguard.

The mahogany neck, joined using a scarf joint and attached to the body via a dovetail joint, features a C-shaped profile that widens from 20 mm at the first fret to 22 mm at the twelfth. The roasted merbau fingerboard, curved to a radius of 355.6 mm (14"), features twenty Medium Jumbo frets, 1.5T white binding, pearlescent acrylic inlays and side markers. The 42.9 mm wide PPS nut leads to the double-action truss rod, adjustable at the soundhole.

On the Standard headstock, with single-fold binding and a satin finish, the acrylic D’Angelico New York and Premier Shield logos sit alongside a Cupola headpin and a Skyscraper aluminium truss rod cover, a nod to the brand’s hometown. The Stairstep Wave tuning machines and chrome strap buttons complement a Stairstep bridge and its PPS bridge pins.

The D’Angelico MG-30 preamp features a built-in tuner alongside EQ and volume controls, allowing the Bowery CS to be plugged in on stage without compromising its acoustic tone. D’Addario EXP-16 strings (.012–.053) span the six strings across a body with a depth of 101.6 to 119.4 mm and a width of 406.4 mm.

Spotlight on

D'Angelico is a New York brand of electric guitars that has existed since 1938. First went unnoticed because the guitars were manufactured only by hand in a very small workshop by two luthiers; it is in 2011, at a show at the New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, that D'Angelico is noticed. Since then, D'Angelico guitars have been a real success thanks to their quality of manufacture and their price.
