Matt Heafy is the lead singer and guitarist for the metal band Trivium. He practices martial arts and has a black belt in karate. During the pandemic, he began streaming regularly on Twitch, playing music and video games. He released a solo project in collaboration with Ihsahn of Emperor called "Ibaraki" in 2022. Heafy is known for his engagement with his fans on social media. He often cooks traditional Japanese dishes and shares his recipes online. His voice underwent a major transformation after vocal cord issues in 2014, which prompted him to relearn how to sing. Heafy collects Japanese ESP guitars. He is also an avid photographer and documents his tours. In addition to Japanese, he is actively studying Latin to better understand the historical texts that inspire some of his lyrics.
