Guitar Microphone

Whether for his super heavy riffs, his steel-sharp solos and the use of Drop B or Drop A tuning, Mick Thomson of Slipknot is a reference in the genre. Known for his particularly wild guitar sound, he teamed up with Fishman and its Fluence Modern range to develop his signature model. Result: 2 active humbuckers, with 3 voicings corresponding to the guitarist's expectations, and a legendary range attack at your fingertips.

In 1999, the American group Slipknot left its mark on the world of Metal with its aggressiveness and the savagery of its performances.

At the center of this hydra of 9 members is guitarist Mick Thomson (number 7 for connoisseurs), who knew how to impose a guitar with an ultra-percussive tone, whether in his uncompromising rhythms or even his sharpest solos.

Coupled with that, the man is huge and often wears a mask (trademark of the group) close to that of a killer from a famous horror film franchise from the 80s/90s, you will understand that he left his mark the spirits.

Renowned for a guitarist's sound that marked an entire generation and the use of very low tuning (Drop B and Drop A), the guitarist was looking for a set of microphones capable of handling busy low mids but still remaining defined and percussive, with adequate gain headroom to make your amplifier scream.

Fervent users of active microphones for their power and precision, it was only natural that the manufacturer Fishman approached the guitarist.

This collaboration results in this great set of microphones with triple voicing (typical of the range) for great aggressiveness but while maintaining precision and variety.

Voice 1 corresponds to the typical sound of modern active microphones, with a sharp attack, tight bass and present mids.

The second voicing provides a warm response closer to a hot passive pickup (more vintage for the neck pickup) and more punch in the low mids.

The last voicing is a single coil type sound, bright, precise and crystal clear.

The guitarist was so amazed by these microphones that he had them installed on all his ESP models, and were broken in, says the guitarist:
"My mics were tuned in the studio, then tested on the road and readjusted again. The end result is both musical and sharp. Particular attention was paid to the low mids so that they remain powerful but precise. The sound is such that it cuts through the mix without ever being shrill. I couldn't be happier with the result."

Founded in 1981 by Larry Fishman (hence the name), the Fishman company specializes in the manufacturing of microphones for instruments of all types, as well as electronics related to music (MIDI module, amplifiers, etc.). ..).

With real know-how and a perpetual search to improve response and transparency, the Fishman company has become a leader in its field and one of the biggest names in the amplification of acoustic instruments.

In 2012, Fishman launched a revolutionary line of active pickups for electric guitar: the Fluence. Based on a system allowing different peak frequencies to be attacked, double (and even triple) voicing has gained in reputation and these microphones are found installed on the biggest brands (Solar, Ibanez, Jackson, ESP,...) .
