Presentation
In 1969, Electro-Harmonix released the first Triangle version of the legendary Big Muff fuzz distortion.
Throughout the 70s, several revisions of the famous circuit were released, including the v2 Rams Head (1973), the v3 Pi (1977) and the v4 Op Amp (1978), but all came to an end in 1984.
Electro-Harmonix went bankrupt for the 2nd time, closed its doors and the sacred Big Muff disappeared for almost 10 years. In the early 90s, Mike Matthews noticed that his Electro-Harmonix pedals from the 70s were selling at a premium. In 1991, he struck a deal with an ex-Soviet manufacturing company in St Petersburg and brought the Big Muff back to life.
This new version was technically the 7th version of the now famous Big Muff, but as Mike no longer owned the trademarks, he called it the "Mike Matthews Red Army Overdrive by Sovtek". This is the very first Russian-made Big Muff ever produced and probably the rarest of them all.
Manufactured only in small quantities between 1991 and 1992, very few examples still exist, making it virtually impossible to find today.
It shares certain characteristics with the famous Civil War Sovtek version (1992), but it has its own particularity. Warmer, clearer and with more definition than any Soviet Big Muff that followed, the Red Army offers a unique variation on a very famous effect.
The Tone control allows you to obtain bright or dark tones, making the Crimson a great match for different types of guitars and amps.
The Distort setting controls saturation for extra fuzz. On the side is a Mode button that gives access to a JHS mode with more gain and a midrange boost to make your solo stand out from the mix.
