Marcus Miller has received international recognition that extends beyond jazz circles. In 2013, he was appointed UNESCO Artist for Peace, a role in which he participates in educational and cultural projects around the world, particularly in Africa, highlighting the power of music as a tool for dialogue.
He is also known for his highly interactive live performances: he often interacts with the audience and allows his musicians a great deal of freedom, making each concert unique. Unlike some highly written artists, he favours a flexible structure where improvisation can totally transform a piece.
His approach combines discreet virtuosity, a sense of groove and cultural commitment, which explains his enduring influence in many musical genres.
