In several interviews, Marcus Miller stresses the importance of collective listening in a jazz band. He believes that a musician should constantly react to the ideas of others rather than just follow a fixed structure. This philosophy has a direct influence on his concerts, where arrangements can evolve spontaneously according to the energy of the moment. Miller particularly appreciates musicians who are able to take risks while remaining attentive to the group as a whole.
