Presentation
The Martinez Master Torres 1889S draws its sound from the legendary design of Antonio de Torres, the father of the modern classical guitar, in its Torres format. Its solid European spruce top captures the resonance of the strings and reproduces it with crystal-clear clarity. The solid maple back adds texture and brilliance to the treble. The 650 mm scale length, the historic standard for classical guitars, gives the fingers the space they need for a full-bodied and nuanced playing style.
The solid cedar neck, constructed using traditional Spanish joinery, features a fingerboard of dense, black ebony – the natural surface for glissandos and nuanced playing. Inside, the Spanish fan bracing organises the vibrations of the top according to the method handed down since 1889, the signature sound of Iberian guitars. The natural wood mosaic rosette frames the soundhole with understated precision, whilst the 52 mm-wide bone nut marks a clear boundary between the strings and the neck.
The high-gloss finish, achieved using a French-polished shellac varnish, brings out the natural wood’s lustre and boasts a sheen worthy of both concert halls and stages. The Savarez 500-CJ strings, the global benchmark for standard tension, hold their tuning consistently and deliver a balanced tone ranging from a rounded bass to a singing treble. The gold-finished Martinez Gold tuning machines combine mechanical precision with the instrument’s visual refinement. Supplied in its Martinez wooden case, the guitar travels safely between rehearsals and concerts. Its 19 frets form a wide neck, ideal for the complex fingerings required by the classical and flamenco repertoire.
