MOTU Digital Performer 12 is a comprehensive digital audio workstation designed to simultaneously record, edit, arrange, mix, process and master audio and MIDI tracks. Available on Mac and Windows, it is aimed at musicians and producers as well as film composers, post-production studios and live performers.
DP12 introduces several major new features, starting with Dolby Atmos immersive mixing. The application allows you to work with multi-channel setups up to 9.1.6, with support for beds, audio objects and pan metadata. Dolby Atmos rendering is built-in to prepare productions specifically for compatible platforms.
AI-assisted Stem Separation allows different elements – such as drums, bass, guitars, vocals, string sections or brass sections – to be extracted from a complete mix. The resulting stems can then be remixed, processed or used to create new productions.
The Arrangement Strip makes it easy to build and re-organise tracks by allowing you to manipulate the different sections of a project directly. The improved Track Freeze feature, meanwhile, frees up resources whilst allowing you to continue working on frozen tracks.
Digital Performer 12 also provides a particularly rich environment for music creation, with over 300 instruments, 1,100 presets and 500 loops, as well as 90 audio and MIDI effects plug-ins. The range covers, in particular, drums, pianos, guitars, basses, organs, string instruments, brass, woodwinds, synthesisers, percussion, vocals and sound effects.

DP12’s Stem Separation feature can be used, for example, to isolate vocals or instruments from an existing mix in order to remix them, create a mashup or work on an instrument separately. For music productions intended for immersive listening, Dolby Atmos support allows you to work directly within DP12 without having to use an external environment for Atmos rendering.
