The BO968 AES/EBU features a different configuration to a standard digital cable; its 9-pin Sub-D connector provides four separate digital audio outputs. Two of these use Cinch-type RCA connectors for S/PDIF, whilst the other two are fitted with digital XLR connectors for AES/EBU. This breakout configuration therefore facilitates access to the various digital connections from the equipment’s Sub-D port.

The RME BO968 AES/EBU can, in particular, be used as an AES/EBU cable for an RME sound card or as an S/PDIF cable for an RME interface, depending on the output used. The simultaneous availability of both formats allows you to utilise the digital connections corresponding to the equipment connected to the interface. The RCA and XLR outputs are clearly labelled, making it easy to connect them to the relevant digital audio devices.
