The Prophet Rev2 analog synthesizer by Dave Smith is the worthy successor to the famous Prophet '08, but in a modern version. This 61-key analog synthesizer is an absolute beast with two DCOs per voice, and Curtis filters at the heart of its sound engine, but above all many technological advances, which make it an even more powerful instrument. With 16 voices of polyphony, the Prophet REV2 doubles the capabilities of its predecessor.

Dave Smith has set the bar very high by releasing his Prophet REV2, a 61-key synthesizer, a reissue of his famous Prophet '08, but with 16 voices of polyphony, two DCOs per voice, and Curtis filters at the heart of its sound engine, and many new features to make it an even more powerful instrument.
You have the possibility to download the sounds of the Prophet '08 to play them identically, or take advantage of the 16 voices of Dave Smith's REV2. With double the polyphony of its predecessor, the REV 2 allows you to assign voices as you wish, to play incredible chords with two hands, to superimpose 2 patches of 8 voices to obtain rich and complex textures, to divide the keyboard into 2 independent instruments with 8 voices .... in short, creativity is limitless. Its bi-timbral operation, waveform modulation, built-in FX engine, polyphonic Step sequencer, OLED display and USB port make it a real Killer!
The high-end 5-octave semi-weighted velocity-sensitive keyboard with aftertouch is perfect. The essence of Dave Smith's Prophet REV2 sound comes from the 2 DCOs (plus a sub-octave generator on oscillator 1) per voice, with 4 waveforms (sawtooth, triangle, sawtooth + triangle, and pulse) and a Curtis 2/4-pole resonant low-pass filter per voice. These filters were used in the Prophet '08, but also in many instruments from the '70s and '80s.
On the other hand, the waveform modulation of the REV2 is brand new. This function consists of varying the pulse width of any waveform manually, by adjusting its width or by using an LFO or other modulation source, to change the timbre continuously.
The effects section offers reverb, delays (standard and BBD), chorus, phase shifter, ring modulation, and distortion.

J'ai découvert le Prophet Rev2 à l'occasion du Synthfest. La qualité : très bien fini, le look (châssis en métal avec flancs en bois), les contrôles sont fermes et précis ;-) Le poids : moins de 10kg (merci la technologie CMS) Le clavier : 61 touches semi-lestées avec AT monophonique d'excellente facture probablement Fatar. J'aime beaucoup le toucher. Les sons : je ne suis pas un pro mais ça sonne très bien. C'est chaud, riche et chaleureux. Le mieux est d'aller écouter pour vous faire une idée. Utilisation : parfait en MAO ainsi qu'en mode DAWless. L'allumage ne prend qu'une poignée de secondes. Idéal pour ceux qui prévoient une utilisation "live". Si vous êtes puriste laisser le chauffer une petite dizaine de minutes même s'il est contrôlé numériquement. Après plusieurs heures d'utilisation il est juste tiède. C'est un synthé hybride donc pas un pur analo : il va venir en complément de mon MODX et de Reaper + VST. Le workflow : la synthèse soustractive devient facile, tout tombe sous la main, tout est bien sérigraphié. L'USB mais surtout l'écran OLED discret mais efficace ajoutent la touche de modernité. L'écran est suffisant pour accéder aux paramètres et aux presets. Je n'ai pas encore pu exploiter toute la puissance de la machine: ARP, séquenceur, matrice de modulation ... Ce qui manque : Sequential pourrait fournir un petit soft pour éditer les presets. Une prise casque à l'avant et pas à l'arrière mais bon en passant par ma RME ça va. Un desksaver car la poussière ... Tarif : c'est un investissement certes mais je compte le garder très longtemps. J'étais parti au départ sur le Rev2-8 mais au final j'ai pris le Rev2-16 et je ne regrette pas car une polyphonie étendue et la possibilité de dual layer constituent un vrai plus. J'ai profité des 2 remises cumulées de Sonovente pour l'avoir à un prix très sympa. N'hésitez pas à aller l'essayer chez Sonovente s'ils l'exposent encore.
