Sterling by Music Man - StingRay RAY35HH Chalk Gray

When a bass line needs to carry the track, reach down into the lower registers and remain perfectly clear, the Sterling by Music Man StingRay RAY35HH Chalk Grey 5-string electric bass has some serious strengths to support the bassist across a wide range of styles. Its HH configuration features two Alnico humbucker pickups, with a neck pickup that adds depth and a bridge pickup that further emphasises attack and definition. The active electronics give the sound a presence that lends itself particularly well to funk grooves, well-defined pop lines, energetic rock or heavier styles where the fifth string becomes invaluable for digging out extra low-end.

With its Nyatoh body and bolt-on roasted maple neck, this StingRay prioritises a comfortable playing feel and a response that suits both repetitive lines and more technical passages. The 22 frets and rosewood fingerboard provide ample scope to move from laid-back accompaniment to more dynamic runs up the neck. The fifth string, meanwhile, adds real freedom to arrangements: it allows you to go lower without changing the tuning and gives bass lines greater depth.

Visually, the Chalk Gray finish offers a understated look that evokes the spirit of the StingRay whilst giving the instrument a contemporary feel. For bassists playing funk, rock, pop, R&B, metal or even modern music styles requiring an extended low-end range, this HH configuration offers a sufficiently broad sonic palette to adapt the bass’s character to the track and your playing style.
