Synthesizer
The Waldorf STVC is a 49-key velocity-sensitive string synthesizer with aftertouch, pitch bend/modulation wheel and built-in vocoder. The STVC comes with a high-quality gooseneck pickup that plugs directly into the front panel for easy access to the vocoder. The string section offers an oscillator bank using octave splitters, followed by a complex mixer, EQ and effects package, just like the string machines of the 70s. The Waldorf STVC is ideal for creating rich, velvety sound textures!

Presentation
The Solo section is a 16-voice synthesizer that complements the sound of the strings. A single Tone knob allows you to cycle through many useful settings. Solo is the strings' sidekick, but it's powerful enough to be the main character from time to time.
The Vocoder replaces the EQ in the string section with the filter bank that models the vocal path from the vocal input. This can produce highly intelligible lyrics or vocals using the fully polyphonic oscillator bank. Voices can be modified in this way, to make a female voice male and vice versa. The adjustable jitter of the string oscillators makes the voice husky, squeaky or a complete whisper. The Solo can pass through the Vocoder or play in parallel.
The Freeze button lets you freeze a short fragment of speech, which is then repeated by the Vocoder each time a key is pressed. You can change the speed of diction, slower or faster, backwards or full stop are possible and fun, as well as changing formants.
The Tweak function lets you modify or modulate details, such as the solo cutoff frequency or the LFO chorus rate. It's similar to a modulation matrix, but it also lets you modify implicit parameters with a fixed value or offset.

Created by the former distributor of the PPG brand between 1975 and 1987, the Waldorf brand was launched in 1988. The Microwave was the first Waldorf synthesiser to be based on a wavetable concept, and was soon a huge success, as were all the models that followed: Microwave II, Microwave XT.
