D'Angelico - Excel DC Solid Black

At D’Angelico, the Excel DC Solid Black sets the tone with a warm, full-bodied tone, thanks to its centre-block semi-hollow body. The laminated maple top, sides and back produce a full projection without ever falling into the unpredictable hollow of an overly open body: the attack remains crisp, the sustain generous. Beneath the deep black gloss finish, the centre block stabilises the body and reduces feedback at high volumes – a useful feature on stage when the wattage really kicks in.
The three-piece neck, 20 mm thick at the first fret and 22 mm at the twelfth, fits comfortably in the palm with its C-shaped profile and accommodates changes in humidity thanks to its double-action truss rod. The rosewood fingerboard, with a radius of 406.4 mm, allows the fingers to glide smoothly up to the 22nd Jescar Nickel Silver 47/104 fret, whilst the mother-of-pearl/abalone split-block inlays mark out the neck with its three-ply binding. At the headstock, the D’Angelico New York logo and the Excel badge are inlaid in mother-of-pearl above an Aluminium Skyscraper truss rod cover and a Cupola headpin; on the back, the model name and serial number identify the instrument.
The double-cutaway body, 44.45 mm deep and 406.4 mm wide, conceals its ergonomic cut-outs beneath sixteen inches of wood and five-ply binding that matches the Scalini tortoise-shell pickguard. A 42.86 mm Tusq nut, Grover 150 Imperial tuners and a stopbar tailpiece paired with a gold-plated Tune-O-Matic bridge keep the guitar in tune. Two Seymour Duncan ’59 humbuckers with gold-coloured covers deliver vintage warmth with crystalline highs; two volume controls, two push/pull tone controls and a three-position selector switch, all fitted with 500k potentiometers, are perfect for everything from mellow blues to biting rock. Assembled in Korea, supplied in a Deluxe hard case with Electrozinc 10-46 strings.
