Presentation
With the 40P5-R, EMG is offering an inverted version of its Precision pickup for 5-string bass, with a new approach to coil placement. By placing the treble on the neck side and the bass on the bridge side, this pickup redraws the classic response curve: more clarity in the bass, more smoothness in the treble.
This is particularly interesting in a modern context, where legibility in the lower end of the spectrum is crucial, especially in groups or with effects. The mic is quiet, stable and dynamic, with a wide bandwidth and good headroom. It responds well in slap, but also in more nuanced finger picking, or in rock or metal styles where the low end needs to stay sharp.
The slim format makes it compatible with many 5-string basses, and the solderless mounting makes it easy to install, even for those who have never touched a soldering iron.
