The EMG P91HZ Black is the discreet, brutal muscle of a passive humbucker hidden under a P90 cowling. Classic soapbar format, but with a contemporary twist: this pickup sits in the bridge position to assert its character.
Under the black shell, twin coils eliminate any interference. The entire pickup is shielded. Plug it in and the signal comes out clean, even with the distortion pushed into the red. There's total silence until the first attack.
The frequency response is broad, with a dry, sharp bass, a lively midrange, and brilliant highs that never shriek. The high-output ceramic bars send out a powerful signal, designed to saturate without becoming muddy. It loves drop riffs and aggressive bends.
Wiring? No soldering iron required. Everything is supplied in the kit: 500kΩ potentiometers, jack output, schematics and quick connectors. All you need is a modern P90 guitar and a screwdriver.
The P91HZ likes simple configurations, such as volume/tone .047 µF, and integrates well into a toggle or blade setup. And yes, earthing via the bridge is essential.
