To find out more...
In several of his tracks, Marcus Miller uses grooves inspired by 1990s hip-hop. He particularly likes the way this music emphasises bass and rhythm. Rather than copying these sounds directly, he adapts them to his jazz fusion universe. This influence helped modernise his style and appeal to a younger audience. It also demonstrates his ability to stay in touch with contemporary musical developments while retaining the harmonic and improvisational foundations of jazz.
