Marcus Miller is recognised as one of the most influential bassists in modern jazz fusion. Born in Brooklyn in 1959, he began his musical career at a very young age, in a family that was already involved in jazz. His style combines technique, funk groove and a highly developed sense of melody. In the 1980s, he became a key figure thanks to his collaborations with Miles Davis, notably on the "Tutu" album. A multi-instrumentalist, he also plays keyboard and bass clarinet, and has produced numerous artists. His extremely precise slap playing has influenced several generations of bassists in funk, contemporary jazz and modern soul throughout the world.
