Sire Marcus Miller V7 Vintage 2nd Generation Alder 4 Strings Bright Metallic Red The metallic red of the North American alder sets the tone before the sound does: the Sire Marcus Miller V7 Vintage 2nd Generation mounts Formvar Marcus Vintage-J Revolution pickups with 70s spacing on a Heritage-3 preamp with 3-band EQ and variable midrange frequency - active for sculpting, passive via a mini switch to recapture the raw grain of the wood. DR Dragon Skin+ strings deliver right from the first session.

Presentation
The Bright Metallic Red of the Sire Marcus Miller V7 Vintage 2nd Generation Alder 4-string doesn't try to be discreet - it burns on the North American alder body and beckons the eye even before the fingers touch the strings. Then comes what the Formvar changes everything about: the Marcus Vintage-J Revolution pickups wound in vintage-style Formvar wire reproduce a dense harmonic warmth, rich in even harmonics, which the 70s placement - closer to the bridge - hardens in the midrange and makes more percussive on attack. This isn't the aseptic voicing of a modern pickup; it's a voice with texture, grain and presence in the mix.
The gloss-finished hard maple neck with C-Shape profile holds its hand in a proven round geometry on an 864mm scale, and the 184.15mm radius of the hard maple fingerboard allows for low strings without slap in the upright position. The small 2.0 mm frets provide a sensation of direct contact with the wood, almost acoustic under the fingers. The 38 mm natural bone saddle anchors intonation right from the open string, and the Marcus Miller Vintage-S bridge maintains string-by-string accuracy over time. The four-screw steel plate locks the neck and body together for clean vibration transfer. Black Block markings, black 1-ply binding and black/white/black 3-ply pickguard make up a sharp retro visual that the premium open tuners and chrome hardware unify. The Edgeless™ system rounds the edges of the fingerboard to absorb the pressure of long sessions.
Marcus Heritage-3 preamp - dual potentiometer volume/tone, balance, treble, midrange with dual potentiometer variable frequency, bass - covers a wide timbral palette in active. The mini active/passive switch - distinct from the push/pull of the previous generation - toggles the circuit in one neat movement, leaving the Formvar pickups and the wood to work without an electronic layer. The original DR Dragon Skin+DBQ-45 strings complete the instrument with a coating that preserves the shine of the wire and reduces fret noise. This bass is ideal for funk, soul and jazz playing, where vintage warmth has to hold its own against a dense contemporary mix.

To find out more...
Marcus Miller began his professional career at a very young age. At just twenty, he was already working with some of America's leading artists in New York studios. His ability to create effective, musical bass lines quickly impressed producers. Marcus also has an excellent command of the bass saxophone and clarinet. This versatility allows him to take part in a wide range of projects, from jazz to modern R&B. Thanks to his professionalism and sense of groove, he quickly became one of the most sought-after musicians of the 1980s. Even today, his style remains an important reference point in the world of contemporary electric bass.
