Classical Guitar 4/4

Martinez Standard MC-48C RN LH The Martinez Standard MC-48C RN turns convention on its head: a left-handed classical guitar that utilises solid cedar to cater for left-handed players. Its 650 mm scale length offers exemplary intonation, whilst the 52 mm bone nut ensures optimum playing comfort.

ARTICLE N° 126202
Picking up a left-handed classical guitar is, in itself, a complete reversal of one’s perception of the instrument. The Martinez Standard MC-48C RN has taken this on board. It is not content to be a mere mirror image of its right-handed counterparts. It is designed so that the strumming hand and the fretting hand can switch roles with natural ease. The solid European cedar of its top is no mere embellishment: it responds to the slightest movement of the wrist, producing a rounded attack and generous volume that is just waiting to be expressed, whether you’re playing a meditative piece or an Andalusian dance.

The soul of this 4/4 classical guitar lies in its Spanish construction, a method that unites the neck and body into a single block. This design gives the instrument stability and ensures direct transmission of vibrations. The mahogany neck, paired with a rosewood fingerboard, offers a smooth feel under the fingers, whilst the double-action truss rod allows you to adjust the neck’s curvature to suit your playing style or the vagaries of humidity. The 20 frets – 12 of which are above the body – give you plenty of room to explore the higher registers without straining.

Visually, this guitar elegantly embraces its heritage. The mahogany body features a high-gloss polyurethane finish that protects the wood whilst allowing the mahogany sides and the Indian rosewood bridge to breathe. No detail has been left to chance: the Indian rosewood binding highlights the top and back, whilst the natural wood mosaic rosette is a testament to the craftsmanship. The mother-of-pearl inlays at the 5th, 7th and 9th frets guide your eye along the fingerboard.

This Martinez comes with a Martinez gig bag and its Martinez strings, ready to travel. The Spanish fan bracing, specific to classical luthiery, allows the top to vibrate freely for a rich harmonic spectrum.

Martinez Guitars traces its history back to Germany in 1978, under the leadership of luthier Wolfgang Jellinghaus. In 2005, the brand entered a new phase with the opening of a production facility in Guangzhou, China, as part of Minyard Martinez Musical Instrument.

This venture was the result of a collaboration between Jellinghaus, the American Kenny Hill and Alex Wang. Kenny Hill brings his experience in classical guitar-making, whilst Jellinghaus contributes the brand’s European heritage.

Since then, Martinez has been developing classical guitars across several price points. Its journey is therefore built on a unique fusion of German roots, American expertise and modern Chinese manufacturing.
