Presentation
When played, the Martinez Standard MC-48C RN delivers a warm, almost velvety response, characteristic of cedar. Its solid European cedar top brings out the bass tones right from the very first bars and rewards nuanced playing, from traditional classical pieces to more modern compositions. The mahogany back and sides stabilise this richness with a denser foundation, providing a natural counterbalance that keeps the midrange clear.
The mahogany neck, fitted using the Spanish joint, features an adjustable two-way truss rod – a rare feature on a Standard range model and a welcome addition for adjusting the neck curvature as the seasons change. The rosewood fingerboard features 20 frets, 12 of which are beyond the soundhole, more than enough to reach the higher registers without compromising intonation. Mother-of-pearl markers at the 5th, 7th and 9th frets guide the eye both on stage and in rehearsal.
The 650 mm scale length adheres to the classic proportions inherited from the Spanish tradition. The 52 mm wide bone nut transmits every vibration clearly to the gold-plated Martinez 48/58 tuning machines, whose finish complements the high-gloss polyurethane body finish. The natural wood mosaic rosette provides a subtle yet distinctive touch to the instrument. A version with a cutaway and a Fishman ISY-301 preamp is available for plugging the guitar in directly on stage. Supplied in a Martinez gig bag, it is protected right out of the box.

Martinez has an unusual history in the world of classical guitars. The brand was founded in Germany in 1978 by Wolfgang Jellinghaus, before moving its manufacturing operations to China in the early 2000s.
This evolution combines European heritage, Spanish methods and modern production techniques. In 2005, Kenny Hill joined the venture as a technical adviser, alongside Alex Wang and Wolfgang Jellinghaus. Martinez has developed a range centred on the classical guitar, with models inspired by European traditions.
This international identity is one of the brand’s defining features and explains its presence in several specialist markets.
