A guitar is sometimes judged by what it doesn’t have: here, there’s no pickguard; the top breathes freely, without any screen or visual artifice – the Martinez MC-58C CE RN embraces a pure aesthetic, enhanced by a natural High Gloss PU finish that lets the wood’s grain tell its own story.

The solid cedar top responds with a warmth that envelops the note from the very first strum, rounder than the crisp attack of a spruce top. The Indian rosewood sides, back and bridge anchor the bass notes with a distinct density, whilst the Indian rosewood binding frames the whole with a continuous line.

Maple and ebony purfling runs across the top, with maple purfling highlighting the back and sides, whilst the inlaid natural wood mosaic rosette surrounds the soundhole with a delicate pattern. On the mahogany neck, the rosewood fingerboard features 20 frets, 12 of which extend to the body, marked by mother-of-pearl inlays at the 5th, 7th and 9th frets.

The two-way adjustable truss rod keeps the neck straight throughout the seasons, supported by a bone nut with a scale length of 650 mm, complemented by a bone bridge saddle. The Spanish fan-bracing and Spanish neck joint are hallmarks of tried-and-tested luthiery. The gold-finished Martinez Gold Tuning Machines 48/58 complete the package. The Fishman ISY-301 preamp and the factory-fitted Martinez strings ensure the instrument is ready to move from the living room to the stage.
