The TLM 103 is the ideal large diaphragm microphone for all professional and semi-professional applications requiring the utmost in sound quality on a limited budget.

Using the transformerless output circuit already proven on numerous Neumann microphones models, the TLM 103 provides extremely low self-noise level and has a maximum permissible sound pressure level extremely high. The capsule, derived from that used in the U 87, is cardioid, has a very balanced sound and provide excellent attenuation of signals from the rear.

The TLM 103 is available in satin nickel finish and matte black. It comes with a metal joint SG 1 and a wooden box.
Applications
With a universal cardioid, easy handling, an extremely low noise level and an extremely reasonable price, the TLM 103 is predestined for all demanding applications from home recording to professional studio productions, as broadcast commercial studio.
Directivity
The TLM 103 is equipped with a large-diameter capsule, cardioid. This directivity - used in most recording situations - provides enhanced mitigation of unwanted sounds coming from the back. Off-axis sound enjoy a great natural, while the insulation is improved. Another advantage is a very effective feedback cancellation when using the microphone on stage or in conjunction with a public address loudspeakers.
Acoustic characteristics
The TLM 103 is a microphone with frontal impact - the red Neumann logo fixed on the body is facing the sound source. The capsule K 103 large-diaphragm K is based on the model 87, known for its use on models U 67 / U 87. It has a flat frequency response up to about 5 kHz; She then presented a lump wide presence of 4 dB.

The metal grille protects the capsule from plosive sounds and effectively prevents hard-hitting. These characteristics are obtained without the use of corrective resonance effects.

Consequence: the microphone has an excellent impulse response and reproduces the finest details without coloration, on the voice like music.
Electrical Characteristics
With a clean background noise level extremely small (only 7 dB (A), 17.5 dB CCIR), the TLM 103 reproduces the most tenuous breathless signals. Since, moreover, it is able to withstand without distortion sound pressure levels up to 138 dB SPL, the TLM 103 provides a dynamic range of 131 dB, according to DIN / IEC 651. The letters TLM stand for " transformerless microphone "(transformerless microphone). TLM technology in fact replaces the usual output transformer by an electronic circuit. As traditional transformers, this circuit provides an effective common mode rejection, and prevents RF interference that may influence the balanced audio signal.
Safety and reliability
All internal microphone modules are elastically mounted to attenuate any structure borne noise that could interfere with the use of TLM 103. In addition, the capsule is mounted on an elastic device. The frequency response extends below 20 Hz, which allows to reproduce very low-frequency signals without coloration.

By its extended bass response, the TLM 103 is more sensitive to structure-borne vibrations transmitted by road and wind noise. If necessary, use the elastic suspension EA 1 and the windscreen WS 87 optional. For use in proximity (vocals), anti-pop PS 15 or PS 20 has screens are recommended.
