In an audio system fitted with D-Sub 25 connections, connecting to devices that use XLR sockets requires each channel to be identified individually. The RME AI25 8XPRO 5m multi-pair cable facilitates this transition using a single cable: the D-Sub 25 connection bundles the eight channels onto the equipment, and the cable then makes them accessible separately via eight female XLR sockets.

This configuration is particularly useful for audio conversion and interfacing systems. A converter or interface can thus be installed in a technical rack, whilst the eight XLR connections run to a mixing desk, patch panel or another part of the system. The 5 metres of cable provided allow this connection to be made without having to place the various devices immediately side by side.

Choosing a multi-pair cable also makes perfect sense when several channels need to follow the same route. Instead of running eight separate cables between two points, the RME AI25 8XPRO bundles the connections into a single sheath. This makes the cabling clearer and simplifies organisation when routing through a cabinet, rack or cable tray.

Each female XLR connector is individually numbered. This labelling makes it easy to match the eight connections at the end of the cable harness with the corresponding channels on the D-Sub 25.
