The Digiface Ravenna acts as an interface between IP audio networks, MADI equipment and a computer via USB 3.0. Its compact design also allows it to be used as a standalone RAVENNA/MADI converter, with a headphone output that can also serve as a stereo line output.

Presentation
A RAVENNA audio network can quickly become the centrepiece of a production setup, but it is still necessary to be able to communicate with MADI equipment, synchronise the various digital domains and maintain a control solution that is sufficiently flexible. RME’s Digiface Ravenna, a portable network audio interface, combines these functions in a particularly compact housing.
The unit features four Gigabit Ethernet ports dedicated to the RAVENNA network and supports RAVENNA, AES67, as well as the ST 2110-30 and ST 2110-31 standards. Network redundancy in accordance with ST 2022-7 allows it to be integrated into infrastructures where the continuity of audio transmission is a key consideration. Configuration can be carried out via a web interface, Globcon, or via the NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 protocols.
On the MADI side, the Digiface Ravenna offers one coaxial input and one coaxial output via BNC connectors. Up to 64 channels can be transmitted at 48 kHz, with support for S/MUX up to 96 kHz and S/MUX4 up to 192 kHz. The two BNC connectors can also be used for Word Clock, allowing the unit to be adapted to different synchronisation set-ups.
The USB 3.0 connection opens up another possibility: RAVENNA and MADI can be used as a multi-channel audio interface with a computer running Windows or macOS. Up to 128 combined RAVENNA and MADI channels can then be transferred via USB, whilst TotalMix FX handles the routing and mixing of the various streams.
Standalone operation is another attractive feature for mobile set-ups. Without a computer, the Digiface Ravenna can function as a 64-channel RAVENNA/MADI converter. Its 6.3 mm headphone output can be used to quickly monitor a signal or provide an additional analogue stereo mix.
In addition, it features TotalMix Remote for remote control, DIGICheck for measuring and analysing digital signals, and a bus-powered design which eliminates the need for an external power supply when used via USB.
