Presentation
In the late 1970s, synthesizers underwent a major transition due to the development of polyphony and sound memory. As synthesizer manufacturers around the world competed to develop these new technologies, Roland launched a basic monophonic synthesizer: the SH-2, which has become a classic.
Released at the same time as Roland's pioneering JUPITER-4 synth, the SH-2 seemed far less revolutionary by comparison. But its dual VCO and sub-oscillator configuration gave it the equivalent of three VCOs and the ability to produce extremely fat and warm analogue sounds. To this day, many fans consider it to have produced the most powerful bass sounds in the world.

The SH-2 software inherits all of Roland's knowledge of the original instrument to faithfully recreate every detail, right down to the interaction between individual circuits. Everything from the self-oscillating VCF to the characteristic attack and decay of the abrupt envelope has been scrupulously reproduced. The harmonics and pitch variations of the original are there, as are the behaviours typical of analogue circuits, such as the subtle change in tone when parameters unrelated to the sound produced are modified. But new features have also been added.
The SH-2 is also PLUG-OUT compatible, allowing full and intuitive operation from Roland physical instruments such as the SYSTEM-8 or the smaller SYSTEM-1. Transfer sounds back and forth between physical and software instruments, and PLUG-OUT the synth directly into the physical instrument to create a standalone SH-2 that you can play without a computer. You can also use the physical knobs and sliders for easy control when your plug-in is installed in your home studio.
