Virtual Instruments Software

The influence of the TR-909 drum machine is still enormous, four decades after its launch. The 909 is now available as a Plug-In, providing the speaker displacement power of the original as well as new features that extend its sonic capabilities and enable faster, smoother programming.

As well as faithfully modelling the TR-909's analogue circuitry, our software version uses the original sample ROMs and models the emerging digital technology built into the vintage instrument. This attention to detail results in a true TR-909 sound with all the sonic characteristics that have made it a favourite instrument of electronic music producers around the world. And this plug-in version also incorporates extraordinary new features for modern production.

The TR-909 software integrates easily with the TR-8S Rhythm Performer and the TR-09 Roland Boutique. Transfer your TR-8S patterns directly into your TR-909 Plug-In or create rhythms on the fly before sending them back to the physical instrument, or use TR-8S or TR-09 to physically control the Plug-In.

In 1983, Roland followed the influential TR-808 movement by unveiling the TR-909. By this time, digital samples of acoustic drums had become fashionable, but these sounds weren't really editable. And, let's be honest, they didn't really sound like acoustic drums. For the 909, Roland engineers took a hybrid approach, using editable analogue circuits for the bass drum, snare, claps and toms, and digital samples for the cymbals.
