Sequential - Prophet 5 Module

Five voices, two oscillators each, a filter that sounds like nothing else: the Prophet-5 needs no introduction.

The heart of the module remains the same. Each voice features two CEM3340 VCOs, with a distinct palette of waveforms depending on the oscillator - oscillator A covers sawtooth and pulse, oscillator B adds triangle and switches to low-frequency mode for modulations that go beyond the simple LFO. Pulse width is adjustable on both, and oscillator synchronisation allows aggressive timbres that filtering can't simulate. The white noise generator completes the mixer, with independent levels for each source. The filter is where everything is decided. The Rev1/2 - Rev3 switch toggles between Dave Rossum's 2140 filter and Doug Curtis's CEM3320 - two distinct characters, two decades of debate resolved in a single button. The 24dB/octave slope and high-resonance auto-oscillation do the rest. Separate ADSR envelopes on the filter and amplifier respond to velocity, and Poly Mod opens up modulation of oscillator frequency, pulse width and filter cut-off from the filter envelope or oscillator B.

In the studio or stage rack, the module integrates directly via CV/Gate, MIDI and USB Type B inputs and outputs, with an expression pedal input and sustain pedal. The variable Vintage control introduces disparities between voices for those who don't want overly clean polyphony. Unison mode for up to five voices stacks everything on a single note. There is a stereo headphone output, but the main audio output remains a mono jack. The black walnut-finish steel case weighs 4.5 kg and is 527 mm wide. No keyboard, no sequencer - just the instrument.
