MOTIF synthesizers offer powerful sound synthesis technology. Each Voice sound can consist of up to 8 elements. These elements can be layered, for a thick, fat sound, or distributed across the keyboard, allowing several to be played simultaneously. You can also switch from one element to another according to velocity, to play with the dynamics of touch, or randomly generate elements, for subtle variations and experimental sounds.

FM Essential is a free 4-operator FM synthesis app for iOS. Its standard version has 10 sounds, but if you connect your iOS device to the MX88 synthesizer (via the Apple Lightning to USB adapter, not included), you'll have 271 FM sounds at your disposal, ranging from the classic 80s sounds of the DX100, TX81Z and V50 to new Electronic Dance Music sounds. You can then access the possibilities for editing the synthesis parameters of the Voices.
FM Essential also has built-in effects and equalisers, electro, house and hip-hop loops, and scene memories to automate your changes.

VCM technology allows you to recreate the sound and behaviour of vintage effects and high-end studio processors by modelling their electronic circuits, right down to the smallest analogue component used in the original.

The MX88 manages 128 voices of polyphony, ensuring that no musical part is lost, either live or via 16-track sequences.

The MX88 is recognised as a USB Audio and MIDI Class Compliant device - in other words, as an audio and MIDI interface. This means you can record and play back MIDI and stereo audio signals to your computer or iOS device. Perfect for recording your MX88 directly into your sequencer, and listening to your mixes on the MX88's connected speakers or headphones.
The MX88 takes digital audio sequencer compatibility a step further, as it also acts as a dedicated control surface. You can use its transport controls to operate your software's functions, and interact with plug-in parameters via the MX88's various knobs. There are dozens of built-in presets, giving you direct control over the parameters of the best-known software synthesizers and audio plug-ins. You work virtually, but as if you had a real instrument in front of you!
In addition to these control options, the MX88 also features a 16-channel MIDI interface, so you can use it as a master keyboard and sound generator.
