D'Angelico - Excel 59 Solid Black

The cream-coloured finish of the P90 pickguards contrasts sharply with the deep black of the Solid Black model; two Seymour Duncan D’Angelico Great Dane pickups, fitted at the neck and bridge, deliver a vintage tone that’s punchy without ever becoming shrill. The single-cutaway hollow-body design, with a laminated spruce top and laminated maple back and sides, allows each note to breathe with an almost acoustic richness, measuring 44.5 mm thick and 406.4 mm wide.
The three-piece neck, set-necked and shaped to a C-profile, widens from 20 mm at the first fret to 22 mm at the twelfth, a progression designed to support the hand without restricting it. Its ebony fingerboard, with a generous radius of 406.4 mm, features twenty-two Jescar 47/104 nickel-silver frets and Split-Block inlays in mother-of-pearl and abalone, whilst a double-action truss rod, capped with a skyscraper-style aluminium cover, maintains consistent tension over time. The Tusq nut and Grover 150 Imperial tuners lock in the tuning, supported by a Tune-O-Matic bridge and a Stairstep tailpiece, both gold-plated to match the strap buttons.
This Excel 59 is equally at home with mellow jazz and energetic rockabilly, where the hollow-body design imbues every note with a woody resonance. The three-position Chickenhead switch, combined with volume and tone controls featuring 500 kΩ potentiometers, opens up the range of sounds with a simple flick of the wrist. A Deluxe hard case is included for transporting the instrument.
