D'Angelico - Premier DC Brown Burst
D'Angelico Premier DC Brown Burst Spruce top, maple back and sides: the D'Angelico Premier DC Brown Burst combines two woods with contrasting characteristics in a 406.4 mm semi-hollow double-cutaway body. Two Alnico V Supro Bolt Bucker A5 pickups, four ebony control knobs and a scale length of 628.65 mm — the Premier series is firmly rooted in the tradition of the great American archtop guitars.
Presentation
Two Supro Bolt Bucker A5 pickups with nickel covers and Alnico V magnets make up the electronics. The Alnico V pickups at both the neck and bridge positions give the pair a consistent character — crisp attack, sustained harmonics, and a full-bodied low-mid range — whereas other models in the range feature magnetic asymmetry. The circuit, featuring two volume and two tone controls with four ebony knobs and 500k potentiometers, allows for individual pickup control: the neck volume alone in the middle position of the 3-position toggle switch, with the tone cut off, produces a rich jazz tone that the bridge position alone, with the tone open, transforms into an incisive rock attack.
The C-profile maple neck, glued to the body, extends onto a Pau Ferro fingerboard with a scale length of 355.6 mm — a flatter radius than average, which stabilises bends in the upper register without pinching the strings in open chords. There are 22 Medium Vintage Nickel Silver frets, measuring 20 mm at the first fret and 22 mm at the twelfth. The 42.86 mm Graph Tech NuBone XL nut maintains tuning when the guitar is cold. The double-action truss rod adjusts the neck action in both directions. The nickel Grover 109 Super Rotomatic tuners lock in tuning under tension. The Standard headstock, with a gloss finish, features a mother-of-pearl New York logo, a mother-of-pearl Premier Shield logo, an aluminium Skyscraper truss rod cover, a Cupola headpin and 3-ply binding. The fingerboard features 3-ply binding and White Pearloid Block inlays. Nickel Tune-O-Matic bridge, Stopbar tailpiece, nickel strap buttons, mono jack output. Fitted with D’Angelico Electrozinc 10-46 strings as standard. Made in Indonesia. Gig bag included.

Spotlight on
D'Angelico is a New York brand of electric guitars that has existed since 1938. First went unnoticed because the guitars were manufactured only by hand in a very small workshop by two luthiers; it is in 2011, at a show at the New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, that D'Angelico is noticed. Since then, D'Angelico guitars have been a real success thanks to their quality of manufacture and their price.
