D'Angelico - Premier Mini DC Black Flake

D'Angelico has produced a Premier Mini DC Black Flake, crafted in the New York semi-hollow-body style. The centre-block body, 355.6 mm wide and 44.45 mm thick, channels the bass frequencies without stifling the upper end of the spectrum. The two Supro Bolt Bucker A5 humbuckers, fitted at the neck and bridge with Alnico V magnets, produce a warm, dense tone, controlled by two volume controls, two tone controls and a three-position selector switch connected to a standard mono jack and 500k potentiometers.

The laminated maple top, sides and back form a Black Flake-coloured body, protected by a gloss finish. The C-shaped maple neck is set into the body via a set-neck joint and widens from 20 mm at the first fret to 22 mm at the twelfth. Its Pau Ferro fingerboard, with a radius of 355.6 mm, features twenty-two Medium Vintage nickel-silver frets beneath white pearlescent block inlays, complemented by side inlays. A 42.86 mm wide Graph Tech NuBone XL nut marks the start of the fingerboard, whilst a double-action truss rod, concealed beneath an Aluminium Skyscraper plate, adjusts the neck’s curvature. Three-ply binding on the headstock and fingerboard, and five-ply binding on the body, frame the instrument, complemented by a standard-profile headstock, a mother-of-pearl D’Angelico New York logo and a mother-of-pearl Premier shield.

The Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece, both nickel-plated like the Grover 109 Super Rotomatic tuners, the ebony knobs and the strap buttons, maintain tuning over a scale length of 628.65 mm. A five-ply Tortoise Scalini pickguard adorns the body, which has no backplate. The D’Angelico Electrozinc 10-46 strings fitted as standard are suitable for jazz, blues and rockabilly. Made in Indonesia and numbered on the back of the headstock, the guitar comes with a DPEMDCBAG gig bag.
