The DPA 6388 CORE+ is a directional headband microphone designed to prioritise speech intelligibility in situations where surrounding sound sources may complicate the recording process. Its supercardioid polar pattern ensures clear separation of speech and helps to minimise the risk of feedback.

Its CORE+ capsule maintains a useful frequency response from 100 Hz to 18 kHz, with a slight boost of 1 dB at 14 kHz. At a distance of approximately 3 cm from the mouth, the vocal reproduction remains balanced, with natural reproduction of bass, midrange and treble frequencies.

The acoustic design of the 6388 is based on an off-axis sensitivity pattern, which allows the boom arm to be positioned slightly to the side of the mouth without compromising the expected recording quality. This design also reduces the impact of minor variations in placement, resulting in a more consistent response across different settings and head shapes.

The Act frame incorporates the adjustment principle familiar from the 4066 and 4088 series, with several enhancements focused on comfort and reliability. The behind-the-ear earpieces feature rounded shapes, the clips offer enhanced secure fit, and the cable runs down to the junction with the ear hook. The PVD finish on the housing and ear hook also minimises their visual presence, whilst the transparent clips remain discreet.

The design also incorporates IP58 protection against dust and moisture, as well as a repairable architecture intended to extend the equipment’s lifespan. The 90° cable routing minimises the strain placed on this sensitive area. The zipped case also features a transparent window allowing for quick identification of the connectors, capsule and colour, with an elasticated strap to facilitate reinserting the microphone and a side pocket to protect the identification label.
