The DPA 6388 CORE+ is a head-worn microphone designed for speech, with a supercardioid polar pattern engineered to prioritise the voice and minimise sounds coming from the sides or rear during a broadcast. This design improves the separation of the source from the audience, other speakers and loudspeakers, whilst maintaining clear and natural sound reproduction, even when multiple sound sources occupy the same shared sound space.

In environments where sound reinforcement creates a risk of feedback, the 6388 relies on controlled off-axis rejection and a high pre-feedback gain – two essential parameters when loudspeakers are located in the immediate vicinity of the user. Its directivity remains consistent across the spectrum, including at high frequencies, which helps to maintain a predictable tonal balance when the stage or venue becomes acoustically complex and highly reverberant.

The CORE+ capsule features an off-centre acoustic axis, with maximum sensitivity oriented differently from the physical axis of the boom arm, to better accommodate minor positioning variations in everyday use. This design allows for positioning slightly to the side of the mouth, with more consistent pickup as distance or angle varies, which also facilitates adjustments between multiple users and avoids the constant need for millimetre-precise positioning on the face, day-to-day and without excessively meticulous adjustment.

Its useful frequency response ranges from 100 Hz to 18 kHz, with a slight 1 dB boost at 14 kHz, to ensure detailed and intelligible speech across a wide vocal range. The acoustic tuning is designed for a position approximately 3 cm from the mouth, where the proximity effect remains under control and maintains a natural balance between bass, midrange and treble, without requiring the kind of precision one might expect from a daily exercise in applied geometry on a settings sheet.

The Act headband provides an adjustable fit with rounded behind-the-ear earpieces, more secure clips and a cable routing downwards at the junction with the headband, combining comfort and stability on the head. The non-reflective PVD finish also reduces its visual presence, whilst the repairable design and IP58 certification reinforce its suitability for regular use, with resistance to moisture and dust suited to the demands of the field and repeated handling, alongside easy maintenance over time.
