When EMG collaborates with James Hetfield, you don't expect lace, especially with the EMG JH 'HET' set, which captures the essence of the mics he uses on stage, with this explosive mix of clarity, gain and controlled saturation. The Brushed Black Chrome colour is visually striking, without ever stealing the limelight from the essential: the sound.
The pickup neck (JH-N) is an active model with dual ceramic coils, designed to give roundness without losing attack. Opposite, the bridge (JH-B) features a ceramic/steel mix that's effective on palm-muted riffs and screaming solos. Both deliver a clear, responsive signal, with a solid output level (3V in play, 4.5V in clean attack).
Installation is almost too easy. All the wiring is solderless, with plug-and-play connectors. The kit includes all the cables, potentiometers, stereo jack output, screws and even foam to hold the battery in place. No need for earthing: just assemble, tighten, plug in... and off you go.
As for the power supply, the system runs on a standard 9V battery for a monstrous battery life of around 1,500 hours. The microphones remain silent even in the most extreme conditions, thanks to a near-zero noise level (-100 dB). Each pickup weighs in at just 80g, so you won't have to worry about unbalancing your guitar.
