Presentation
The Markbass MB 4 Blue Sky S JB is a four-string electric bass with a JB-style offset body. Its poplar body is finished in a deep blue colour, enhanced by a black pickguard and a chrome control plate, for a understated and familiar look.
The narrow maple neck offers a comfortable and responsive feel. Its 20 frets sit on a laurel fingerboard, with a scale length of 863.60 mm (34 inches) that maintains appropriate tension for the low strings whilst retaining the classic bass fret markers.
The pair of single-coil J/J pickups, positioned at the neck and bridge, deliver the round, slightly nasal tone associated with JB-style basses, in the spirit of Jaco Pastorius’s playing. The two volume controls and the tone control allow you to balance each pick-up and adjust the mix of depth, attack and definition.
Part of the MB Entry Level Basses range, the Markbass MB 4 Blue Sky S JB comes with a Gloxy gig bag and an MB strap, making it easy to take to rehearsals or on stage.
The ‘Blue Sky’ in its name evokes another milestone in Markbass’s history: the one pioneered by Marco De Virgiliis when neodymium magnet speakers reduced the weight of subwoofers by nearly half, without compromising on power. This quest for equipment that can be carried effortlessly remains the Italian brand’s hallmark, right down to this entry-level bass.
