Novastar - MCTRL 660

When an LED screen needs to be up and running quickly, the time spent on configuration becomes a real challenge, and the Novastar MCTRL660 has been specifically developed to minimise this stage, with an architecture that allows the screen to be configured directly without having to connect a computer every time.

NovaStar states that setup can be completed in around 30 seconds, which can make a significant difference during event set-up or technical preparations under time pressure.

The controller accepts video sources via HDMI 1.3 and DVI, supporting 8-, 10- and 12-bit signals depending on the resolution used. In 8-bit mode, the input resolution reaches 1920 × 1200 at 60 Hz, whilst 10- and 12-bit sources can be used up to 1440 × 900 at 60 Hz. Custom resolutions are also possible, with a width or height of up to 3840 pixels depending on the configuration. The MCTRL660 supports RGB formats as well as YCrCb 4:2:2 and 4:4:4.

Signal distribution is handled via four Gigabit Ethernet outputs, each capable of managing up to 650,000 pixels, with support for port redundancy. The HDMI and DVI outputs, meanwhile, allow for loop-through to other equipment or for monitoring. Several MCTRL660 units can be linked via UART, with up to 20 units daisy-chained, to form a larger control architecture.

Video processing incorporates the Nova G4 engine, designed to produce a stable image free from flicker or visible scan lines. The controller also supports manual brightness adjustment and NovaStar’s calibration technologies, particularly to improve brightness and chrominance consistency between pixels.

With its 19-inch form factor, front-panel controls, LCD display and control and cascading capabilities, the MCTRL660 thus serves as a central control point for LED display systems requiring rapid set-up, reliable signal distribution and flexible operation.
